GIS

Interstate Engineering, Inc. uses ESRI’s latest GIS software to meet the needs of our clients – ArcGIS. With ArcGIS we can do much more than just create maps and perform limited spatial analysis. Complex data manipulation and creation is now an everyday reality, from creating geodatabases with topology to importing and exporting datasets from and to a variety of formats.

Our GIS services include:

  • Needs assessment for GIS systems, including hardware and software
  • Setup of GIS database structure on your computers
  • Training for ArcView 3.x
  • Custom GIS applications including E-911 Routing, Sign Inventory, and Drainage Structure Inventory

We can provide GIS datasets set to the datum/projection that you use:

DOQQ's - Digital Orthophoto Quarter Quadrangles - Digital orthophoto quarter-quadrangles in raster format meet National Map Accuracy Standards at 1:12,000 scale which specify that 90 percent of the well-defined points tested must fall within 33.3 feet (1/30 inch). These are more than just black and white aerial photographs. Each DOQQ has the same visual characteristics of an aerial photograph along with the spatial qualities of a digital map. Distortion has also been corrected in the DOQQs so that all areas within the image are in their true geographic location. This allows for accurate measurements of distance.

DRGs - Digital Raster Graphics - Digital raster graphics are scanned images of United States Geological Survey (USGS) standard topographic maps in raster format. The DRGs that we provide are of the 7.5-minute map series at a scale of 1:24,000. Like the DOQQs, they meet National Map Accuracy Standards at 1:24,000 scale which specify that 90 percent of the well-defined points tested must fall within 40 feet (1/50 inch).

DEMs - Digital Elevation Model - Digital elevations models are raster datasets derived from USGS topographic maps containing elevations at regularly spaced intervals. A majority of the 1:24,000 scale DEMs for North Dakota are Level-2 DEMs. Level-2 DEMs have been processed to remove identifiable systematic errors to increase their accuracy, which is set at an RMSE of one-half the contour interval of the original USGS topographic map it was derived from.

SSURGO Soils Data - Soil Survey Geographic (SSURGO) is the most detailed of the soil surveys produced by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) provided in vector format. Scale of the data ranges from 1:12,000 to 1:63,360 and duplicates the original soils surveys.

NWI Datasets - National Wetlands Inventory data from the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) in vector format. These datasets contain the digitized datasets which have the wetlands and deepwater habitats classification system attributes. Additional attributes have been added to classify the wetlands as temporary, seasonal, semi-permanent, and permanent.

PLSS Sections - Public Land Survey System sections for the State of North Dakota are available in vector format. This dataset is at 1:24,000 scale and contains the section number, township and range information. Quarter-sections are also available. Data Manipulation -- Each of the datasets can be provided in any commonly used datum and projection. Vector datasets can be shipped in ESRI ArcView shapefile or ArcInfo coverage format. Raster datasets can be provided as individual images in TIFF (Tag(ged) File Format) compressed format or mosaiced and compressed in MrSID® format.

Requests for additional datasets not listed are welcome.
